Countdown to Wedding: 1 day

Obviously, for this wedding, I have a very special dress to wear, but finding a seasonally as well as occasion appropriate dress for a wedding can be a challenge. If I didn't already have something picked out for me to wear, these would be it!

Countdown to Wedding: 2 days

Coming up with awesome gifts for your bridal party can be difficult because you want to thank them kindly but when you have a large bridal party it can be easy to break the bank. Here are some great ideas that your bridal party will love!

Bridesmaid-ing 101

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Countdown to wedding: 3 days

She said yes, then asked you to be by her side. Now what?

To me, being a bridesmaid is a big honor. It is a friend saying to another, 'you are so special to me that I want you by my side at the moment I start the rest of my life.' While being a bridesmaid can be not only expensive, but also stressful, it is also and incredibly exciting and special time. The most important thing to remember is that you are there for your bride, not for yourself. Here are my tips for being the best bridesmaid ever!

Stash away some cash | Dress, shoes, hair, nails, makeup, jewelry, shower gifts, bachelorette party, wedding gift, and travel expenses are a few of the most common expenses that will arise during your time as a bridesmaid. Planning for these expenses and possibly others upfront will not only make your time as a bridesmaid less stressful but it will also help keep drama at bay with the bride. You have to remember that the bride has an image in her head of what she wants her big day to look like and any friction about expenses or refusal to do something as asked is only going to cause problems. Now, I'm not saying that if a bride is expecting you to spend $900 on a bridesmaids dress you should just suck it up, but you must plan for certain reasonable expenses.

Be supportive | This is a time of change in your friends life. There are going to be lots of ups and downs. Even if your bride has a perfect life and a perfect family and a perfect wedding planner, there are going to be times when she needs you by her side. Even if its just drinking wine and watching a movie, or spilling her guts to you about her fears, being there for her as a listening ear will make her time so much easer. Also, if she knows you're there to talk, she is not going to keep all her emotions inside...meaning she is far less likely to be a crazy bride! #winwin

Offer help | Even if your friend has a wedding planner, she is going to have eight zillion tasks she must complete before the wedding. Even if you are just picking up bottles of water, or keeping track of the gifts the couple gets at showers, that is one less thing for the bride to do and she will be ever so grateful.

Show up | She asked you to be there, because she wants you there. There is nothing more hurtful to a bride than a bridesmaid who is MIA...and I don't mean for the wedding. There are many many events leading up to the wedding such as showers, fittings and the bachelorette party and your attendance means the most to the bride. Sure, there are plenty of other guests, but sitting in a room full of your future family  and your parents friends can be incredibly intimidating, which is why she needs her girls there. Familiar faces will be her saving grace. Don't get me wrong, I understand things come up and it is impossible to be free every single day leading up to the big day but making a commitment and then backing out is not only frustrating but feelings will be hurt. Being up front about your schedule will save all sorts of drama.

Be positive | Unfortunately, girls are jealous creatures. It can be hard to watch your bestie prepare for her life with a fantastic guy, when you're still busting out all your best moves when Single Ladies comes on, but your time will come someday. Comparing what she has to what you don't will only drive a wedge between you and your friend that will become harder and harder to repair as time goes on. Be happy for her, you should be after all she is your friend!  Weddings are not competitions over who has the most expensive dress or the prettiest flowers, every bride has a different budget to work with and different tastes and priorities! If they didn't, weddings would be really boring because they would all be the same! Each is beautiful in its own respect and that is all that matters.

Have fun | Once the wedding is over, you'll never experience that day again! Enjoy every minuet while it lasts! It is a fun time for everyone involved so make the most of it! Take lots of photos and keep a big smile on your face!

Pre-Wedding To-Do List!

Monday, July 28, 2014

It is wedding week y'all! This is just a warning, this week is going to be very wedding-y here at Legally Leslie. If you happen to be a wedding hater, which I know none of my wonderful followers are, then just tune yourself out until Friday when I will return to my regularly scheduled broadcasting. Regardless, I promise that even though my posts are wedding themed, they are still super 'me' and I hope everyone loves them anyway!

Countdown to Wedding: 4 days.

Doesn't matter if you are a guest, part of the wedding party or the bride or groom here are my tips of what to do that final few days before the wedding:

Take time to carefully steam your dress (or suit) | Y'all. I hate ironing. hate.hate.hate. However, my dearest mother got me a steamer before heading to law school and it was life changing. Now, you don't want to be looking like you slept in your duds in any wedding photos so steaming those wrinkles out is oh, so important! I realize, that if you are renting a tux the store probably does that for you, but it is always good practice to double check just in case. If you are away from home, most hotels have a concierge service that will gladly get those wrinkles out for you.

This is the Conair steamer I have.
Wear Sunscreen | This probably sounds like a duh to many people but lets be honest. No one wants to look like a strawberry in wedding photos. #awkward Taking a few extra minuets each day to put some on will ensure you'll just have a beautiful golden glow in all the photos! I posted here about my sunscreen routine along with a list of my favorite products.

Break in your shoes & scuff up the bottom | Uncomfortable shoes lead to lame people. If your little feets hurt, you're not going to want to dance the night away! #boo Make sure that you are used to walking in them, especially heels, no one likes looking like a baby deer. Gentlemen, this applies to you also! Make sure you scuff up the bottom of your shoes before you try and cut a rug. Lord knows, you would not want to drop your beautiful date on her booty when you go in for a dip...and slip.

Whiten your teeth | I'm going to be honest. I have a fear of teeth whiteners. They always either burn my gums or make my teeth super sensitive. Plus, I feel like I am swallowing bleach. BUT I also have a fear of yellow teeth. #eww Thankfully, I found some sensitive formula ones that I can handle and while they are sort of an investment...I just can't help but give my pearly whites some love.

These Crest Gentile Routine whites trips are working great for me, and so far my teeth don't hurt!

Drink 8 glasses of water a day & stay away from salt | No one wants to be bloated and uncomfortable in their suit or dress. Drinking lots of water will not only prevent that from happening but it will also ensure that you are nice and hydrated for a night of dancing and *ahem* consumption of adult beverages.

Get your beauty rest | Making sure you get 8 hours will allow you to dance into the early morning without turning into a pumpkin at midnight. It will also help ease stress and jitters so you are not a crabby party guest. A bonus? You won't look like a zombie in those everlasting wedding photos!

Changes Y'all

Sunday, July 27, 2014

If you've been around over the past few days you've probably noticed things look a little different! I am super excited to have my new design installed and I apologize if things are slightly messy until the dust settles. This new construction is *almost* done!

I decided it was time for a slightly more professional, while still totally me look for my blog. annnndddd I got rid of a lot of the garbage that was lurking along my side bar! (I'm sorry that I put it there in the first place. Really, I am.)

I hope you all enjoy the new design and get excited for some new features that will begin to appear in the near future!

Summer Reading Musts

Saturday, July 26, 2014

Confession: I am a serious bookworm. I know this is probably a huge surprise to y'all since I'm in law school and all...but it is true. I love to read.
I have been wanting to do a post on my "must read" list but quite frankly, it is really long. I've been paring it down and paring it down and paring it down, so now I present to you my top 5 MUST READ books. All I'm saying is that these five books survived many rounds of cuts...so they are for sure worth your time, in my opinion of course.

1 | Wild by Cheryl Strayed | I thought I was going to hate this book. I am not outdoorsey at. all. so reading a book about someone hiking the PCT was not something I thought I would enjoy. However, there has been a ton of buzz about this book so I thought I would give it a try. I could not put it down. I finished it in less than two days. It was so captivating and honest. Fantastic read.

2 | The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt | I also got sucked into this one because of its media attention. I had read mixed reviews on this book, a lot of people hated it, a lot of people loved it so I thought I would give it a go. I was in the love it camp. I do think that I probably could have ended perfectly fine about 100 pages before it did, but it was such a unique story, like nothing I've read before.

3 | Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt | This might be my all time favorite book. I also might be incredibly partial because it is about Savannah, which is one of my favorite cities. Regardless, it is a fantastic combination of history and mystery that had me wrapped up with the characters until the very last page.

4 | The Husband's Secret  by Liane Moriarty | I am a huge fan of books that have seemingly separate characters that are later linked by a small common thread. This is one of those books. The plot twisted in ways you never expected and the characters were portrayed in such a way you couldn't help but feel as though you were part of their lives.

5 | Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult | I am normally not a huge fan of Jodi Picoult, I don't like crying my way through books. Thankfully, this is not one of them. It is hard to describe the book without giving away the entire plot, and I don't want to do that, but I will just leave it at that it is a great read.

So there you have it, my top five!

Tote it All

Thursday, July 24, 2014

I don't know about y'all, but I am a total bag lady. I am constantly looking for new bags to carry my life around. Literally, my life. I often spend 10 hours at school so it is always super important that I remember to bring everything I might need throughout the day. However, carrying so much stuff can be problematic if you don't have a bag big enough to carry it all! I have pulled together some of what I think, are fantastic totes that could contain my life without breaking my back! Plus, they are also great for going to the beach or pool during the summer months, duh!

The Last Shower

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

It is hard to believe that it has been almost 10 months since Morgan asked me to be her bridesmaid...and even harder to believe that in less than 10 days she will be going from Ms. to Mrs.!
This past weekend, I attended one last shower for this sweet girl, and ohmigoodness it was adorable. It was a lingerie shower and the hostess did had so many cute ideas for this party!

First, she got custom made bags of cotton candy, which is Morgan's favorite, that had a cute little saying on it!

And don't even get me started on these cookies! HOW CUTE.

A perfect hanger for Morgan to that really important white dress on.

The most delicious popcorn in America. No exaggeration here.

Talk about a cute game. We all got brightly colored lipstick and got to kiss a piece of paper for everyone else!

So excited for this girl's wedding!

The most hilarious part of my day was that I went and spend the earlier part of the day before shower with Morgan, just running last minuet errands for the big day...I needed some caffeine so I stopped for a coke. I SWEAR I just randomly grabbed one out of the case in the gas station and look what it said....

Share a coke with Morgan!!! Too perfect!

I had my palms read!

Sunday, July 20, 2014

Well, to be honest, I have been debating this post for a bit now. Mostly, just because I didn't know how to approach it. But, it was on my 25 before 25  so I do feel like I must share. I was quite nervous going into the little shop, but ultimately I am glad I had it done and of course crossed another thing off my list!

I had all these ideas in my head about what the whole experience would be like, but I think a lot of those ideas were majorly stereotypical and for sure a hollywood idealized image. I absolutely expected the lady to be dressed like a gypsy in sparkly, beaded, billowing clothing. She wasn't, she was just wearing a totally normal maxi dress. I also expected her to have long, like knee length long, hair with braids and beads, but again I was wrong. As far as the reading was concerned, I was not sure if I should expect it to be a scam or be prepared to be totally freaked out by the accurateness of the reading.

Without going into too many details, it ended up being kind of fun. The lady was super nice and it was very interesting to hear what she had to say about my energies. Either way, we shall see. ;) If nothing else, it was a fun little adventure.

Bestie Visits!

Friday, July 18, 2014

Sorry for my brief absence! I was having so much fun this past week with my bestie in town I never had a spare moment to write a post! Not to fear! We were so busy I even checked a few things off of a few of my lists so YAY for productivity!
Anyway, in case I forgot to mention it...LIBBY CAME TO VISIT ME! It was a super great way to end my summer semester! We had a blast and crossed several things off this list I created almost a year ago when I moved to Georgia.

When she first arrived we shopped around Lenox and had dinner at the Varsity, which is a famous drive in type diner place with hot dogs and chili cheese fries. It was a fun little adventure. The next day we headed back to Atlanta to explore.

First, we went to World of Coke. It was a fun tourist-y thing to do in Atlanta. We got to try over 60 flavors of coke from all over the world...most of them were horrendously disgusting, but hey at least we tried.

We even got to go inside the secret vault where they "keep" the secret formula. The whole place was geared more towards kids, but it was a fun history lesson and obviously an Atlanta classic. We were, however, disappointed that they didn't have a place to create our own Coke bottle labels...neither one of us have had any luck finding our names thus far during the 'Share a Coke with...' campaign.

After World of Coke we found this amazing pizzeria where we had lunch before heading off to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.

With our prince charming!

The gardens were amazing. They had some seriously beautiful flowers. But man was it hot. I think the orchids were my favorite.

We were both exhausted after spending the entire day out in the sun, but had to get read to head to Savannah for a few days!

During our first night, we took a Ghost Tour in a hearse. Literally, we were sitting in the back of a hearse with our heads sticking out the top. It was quite comical. Savannah is known as one of the most haunted cities in America because it is quite literally built on its dead so it was very interesting to hear the various ghost stories from different buildings around town.

After the Ghost Tour we went to Leopold's for ice cream cones! Leopold's is a famous soda fountain in Savannah. I had peanut butter cup ice cream. Yummm. The next day we took a trolley tour around the city to visit all the historic landmarks.

The Catholic Church
The Fountain in Forsyth Park

The Confederate Monument in Forsyth Park.
Once again it was a very very very hot day, so we grabbed some Cokes. Hilariously enough, we got BFF and Soulmate on our cans. Totally by accident, I swear we didn't look when picking them out! It was almost as good as finding our names!

I was very sad to see Libby go, but I was so glad she was able to make a quick trip to Georgia to see me!

Animal Instinct

Thursday, July 17, 2014

I've always been a sucker for a good animal print, but oh my goodness throw the entire animal into the mix and I'm in love. Especially elephants, I just think they are so stinking adorable! The good news for me is that animal themed clothing is popping up everywhere! It makes me want to go to the zoo...and the aquarium! Here are some of my favorites!

Dress | Lilly Pulitzer in Jellies be Jammin (um how cute is that print name?)
Ankle Pants| Vineyard Vines
Clutch | Kate Spade
Agenda | Lilly Pulitzer
Gator Ring | C.Wonder
Kitty Phone Case | Kate Spade

Oh HAY!

Friday, July 11, 2014

Notice anything different around here? Hmmm...look closely...THAT'S RIGHT! THIS GIRL GOT HER OWN DOMAIN NAME!! I know that y'all are probably not as excited as I am but umm...I just saved you typing 9 extra characters when you're coming to look for me! SQUEE!

In addition to being so so excited to have my own domain name, I am also super proud of myself for setting it up without the help of any computer geniuses! Which is is big for me, because it took about the same skill level as performing rocket surgery. No joke, rocket.surgery. You may have noticed that I disappeared off the interwebs for a while Thursday afternoon, and I apologize for that if you were looking for some highly invigorating content to read. That was 100% my fault because I broke my blog trying to set up this domain name. BUT it is all fixed now (I hope.)

Anyway, you can now find me here at www.legallyleslie.com OR you can even leave off the www! How exciting is that?!

Hopefully this excitement doesn't overwhelm you, because I have a few more big tricks up my sleeve. I am quite literally, hopping up and down (on one leg of course) with excitement! Stay tuned.

Fruit-topia

Thursday, July 10, 2014

There is just something about fruits that I find simply adorable! They just scream summer, warm weather, bright sun and happiness. Pineapples and watermelons are probably my favorite but there have been so many cute prints popping up in stores recently that incorporate may other fruits! Here are some of my favorites:
Top | J.Crew
Shorts | Vineyard Vines
Peplum Top | Kate Spade
Planner | Lilly Pulitzer

Life Lately: 4th of July

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Happy hump day y'all! I hope you had a safe, and relaxing 4th of July weekend, I know I did. However, I found myself wishing it was longer...but that could just be because I have final exams for summer classes this week. *sigh*
On Friday NABS and I headed over to her parent's house for a BBQ before heading off to the fireworks. Her Dad made some delicious ribs on the grill, and her Mom made banana pudding that looked like an American Flag! So cute! I brought pasta salad to add to the feast. NABS's mom said that my pasta salad looked better than those on the cover of Southern Living...which basically made my month. I use a recipe that I made up myself in high school, and it is always a hit!

The fireworks took place at the country club and it was a really fantastic show! I actually managed to take some pretty decent photos with my phone!

This one is my favorite!
Sunday, I attended a bridal shower for sweet Morgan in Atlanta! The shower was kitchen themed and the hostesses made the cutest little favors for everyone!

Morgan and I
Morgan with her Momma, Sister, Aunt and Grammy! Can't you tell they're all related!
Morgan's wedding is in 22 days and I couldn't be more excited for all the festivities!
The last event of the holiday weekend was me being dragged, against my will, to the Waffle House for the first time. It was...a waffle...and I'm not sure if I will ever go back, but I suppose its part of the Southern experience.
