Spring Break!

Sunday, March 30, 2014

This post is kinda late, but if that is any indication of how busy this week would be a pretty accurate one. Not last week, but the week before was our spring break, for the first half of the week I just relaxed and did some school work but on Wednesday my big AZ came from Arizona to spend the rest of the week with me!

I was so wonderful to see her! We always have a blast, so here is a little recap of what we did.

Thursday, we laid by the pool then headed out to watch the MSU game and grab dinner!
My big <3 Dinner at the Rookery
AZ, me and AB at the Crazy Bull.
The next night, we went out downtown!

My school had just advanced in the March Madness Tournament by beating a way higher seed, so everyone was ready to have some fun!

We ran into NABS! :)
and the Rose Bowl Queen!!
The next morning we all woke up and drove to Atlanta to visit the aquarium!

Then we grabbed lunch at a place called FlipBurger. I had a delicious avocado burger and fried pickles.
and a peanut butter captain crunch milkshake. YUM.
After a nap, we went shopping at Lenox and then had dinner at the mall!
Then we headed out in downtown Buckhead.

 We had so much fun and I was so so sad to see AZ leave.

Currently Obsessed: Post-Spring Break Edition

Monday, March 24, 2014

1| This rendition of Let it Go from Frozen. I've never actually seen the movie, although I hear it is super cute, but this song is just so catchy.

2| AP being just a generally stand up guy and a hero to Princess Lacey. #SpartansWill Check out the full story here

3| #SELFIE Just my new anthem...disregard the obnoxious music video...mostly just the song. #nojudgment

4 | Grandma Betty. Seriously, follow this lady on Instagram. She's adorable. She's fighting cancer and her grandson set up an Instagram account for her.

5 | The fact I met the Rose Bowl Queen this weekend...and she said her new favorite football team is the MSU Spartans.
Don't worry, more on this later.

Benevolent Jewels

Well, it is certainly no secret that I have a small obsession with accessories, so it is safe to say I am very excited to share this amazing company with y'all. I was introduced to this company by Morgan, because it was started by one of her college girlfriends and I fell in love instantly. So what is this amazing company you ask? It is called Benevolent Jewels.

//Why am I so obsessed?//
First, their jewelry is simply stunning. I will post photos soon of how I styled my first few pieces, but on top of its super fashionable qualities, it is so so affordable. Being in law school, I don't exactly have dimes to spare but anyone who knows me knows I love being fashionable and styled affordability is huge in my book. However, this is not event the best part. The best part is that Michelle, the founder of the company wanted to make a difference in the world and chose to do so by being an entrepreneur. Every three months, Benevolent Jewels selects a cause and 20% of the profits made for those three months are then donated to said cause. HOW AMAZING IS THAT? Right now the cause is +Works. This three month cycle ends May 21, 2014 so 20% of all purchases made from now until then go to +Works.

//What is +Works?//
+Works (pronounced positive works) is a nonprofit located in Houston, Texas that was started in 2010. The organization is an anti-bullying program that works to spread awareness about the issues in bullying by using creative means to allow adults and children to stop bullying before it begins. Today, the program has been implemented in 13 Houston area schools.

You can find out more about +Works by visiting their website here

//What do I love about +Works?//
Bullying became a hot topic during my undergraduate years at Michigan State and I had the opportunity to work on several projects and initiatives dealing with bullying prevention, including this book that one of my classes co-authored and the many events my sorority hosted for the Girl Scouts of greater Lansing to teach them about bullying prevention and self-confidence. Because of these projects anti-bullying projects have always held a special place in my heart so I love seeing new non-profits that are addressing the issue.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Sunday, March 16, 2014

This week was a trying one. I'm not sure if it was because it was the week leading up to spring break so everything was on a short deadline or because I had three interviews or if it is just that point in the semester but come Friday I was exhausted. Seriously exhausted. I came home from class and took a four hour nap and then went to bed early and slept for another 14 hours. I'm not exaggerating that one bit.

Without getting too much into the nitty-gritty the week started off with a very disheartening experience that left me feeling overwhelmed, slightly lost and wondering how you are supposed to put your faith and trust in another person when they could so easily take advantage of you and do you wrong.

After this experience, I made a choice and hoped that it was the right one. I embraced Proverbs 3:5-6 and trusted that I would be guided in the way I needed to be. I am constantly in awe of how quickly a hard lesson guides the way to such cherished moments in life. The unsettling feeling of being unguided was quickly reversed by not one but two wonderful people I had the pleasure to meet later in the week. I was so powerfully reminded that for every one person who has a moral compass that is so opposite mine, there are twice as many people who can bring light and learning into my life.

On Thursday, we had Girls Night In, in honor of Morgan and again I was reminded how I am surrounded by so many beautiful people. We shared lots of laughs, yummy food, a couple of drinks, and celebrated being 20-something's and being one day closer to our spring break.

Office Makeover!

Friday, March 7, 2014

Remember that office makeover / reorganization that I mentioned here? Well, it is done! Yay! I am so so excited. I know you're all probably thinking, girlfriend you just moved in how can you possibly have to re-decorate already? BUT, I never really put a whole lot of effort into my office area. I had so much stuff and I was acquiring so much stuff I just got overwhelmed and did not know what to do! However, recently the mess was starting to get to me and I decided it was time to get it together. Everything now has a spot, and it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders! Last semesters school work is organized by class in a hanging file, my bills are all organized by date and type, my stationary is one one spot (note to self: don't buy more anytime soon), my printer no longer sits on the floor for Lulu to nest on (I'm telling you, this cat loves office supplies), and my pens are no longer scattered around my apartment! I have also included my new bookcase in the reorganization, even though technically it is not in my office. But it is where all my school books live so I say it counts! Oh...and by office I mean my sunroom where I put my desk...don't worry my apartment is not so spacious that I get my own corner office.

I've linked to all my organizational and decoration items below and so far I LOVE the way everything is working for me and would highly recommend any of them.

My desk. I honestly don't know where this came from. My mom found it at a consignment shop...however the tag said Pottery Barn! I had a piece of glass cut for the top. Book Stand | Pen holder

This is my new mini bookshelf that sits next to my desk! It works out perfectly to hold my printer, paper and binders as well as two organization boxes! Bookshelf | Hanging File | Paper Tray | Boxes

I got both this apothecary jar and hurricane from JoAnn Fabrics. They're perfect for storing pens, pencils and post-its!

My lovely bookshelf. The wooden animals came from my grandparents, so I can't link to those. Plant | Box

I'm starting to see an elephant theme here... Bookends
