Fitmas Day 10!

Wednesday, December 10, 2014

10 days in, how are you feeling? Great I hope because today I have a fantastic core workout that involves NO crunches!
{1} Romanian Dumbbell Deadlift: Grab a pair of dumbbells and stand with them in front of your thighs, knees hip distance apart and slightly bent. Bend at your hips and slowly bend down until your torso is parallel to the floor, then slowly go back up.
Do as many as you can for 60 seconds.

{2} Bicep Lunge Curl: Stand with the dumbbells at your side, feet hip distance apart. Lunge forward on your right leg and as you do, curl the dumbbells up to your shoulders. Step back into the starting position and uncurl your arms. Repeat on the left side.
Do as many as you can for 60 seconds

{3} Dumbbell Overhead Press: Start with arms bend, dumbbells at your shoulders. Extend arms until they are straight and bring back down to starting position.
Do as many as you can for 60 seconds.

{4} Mountain Climbers: Start in a straight arm plank. Bring right knee to chest, then back to plank position. Bring left knee to checks, then back to plank position.
Go go go for 60 seconds!

Repeat this set 4 times & feel the burn! Remember to keep your core engaged at all times!

Todays OOTD is brought to you by Alala! Show off that toned core!

Fitmas Day 4!

Thursday, December 4, 2014

Today is another recipe, but really, its just too yummy not to share! In fact, I'm making it tonight after a serious Constitutional Law study session! I've made it before and it is absolutely one of my favorites.

Mediterranean Boneless Pork Chops

Ingredients (makes 4 servings) :
-8 think sliced center cut boneless pork chops
-3/4 tsp of McCormick Montreal Chicken Seasoning (I buy the low sodium kind)
-1 small zucchini (spiralized or julienned)
-1 small yellow squash (spiralized or julienned)
-1 cup grape tomatoes (halved)
-1 tbsp EVOO
-1/4 tsp salt and fresh cracked pepper
-1/4 tsp oregano
-3 cloves garlic
-1/4 cup pitted and sliced Kalamata olives
-1/4 cup crumbled Feta cheese
-1/2 lemon, juiced

Step 1: Preheat oven to 450*. Season pork chops with the Montreal Chicken Seasoning.
Step 2: toss tomatoes with 1/2 of the EOO, salt, pepper and oregano, slice and put on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with non stick spray.
Step 3: Roast tomatoes for 10 min. Add garlic and roast for another 5 min. Reduce oven to 200*
Step 4: In a large non-stick skillet over medium heat, add 1/2 of the EVOO, squash and zucchini. Add salt to taste and sauté until tender. Combine with tomatoes in an oven safe bowl and put in oven.
Step 5: Spray skillet with cooking spray and add the pork chops. It is usually best to do a  few at a time. Cook until done.
Step 6: Remove veggies from the oven and toss with Kalamata olives, and lemon juice.
Step 7: Put the pork chops on a bed of the veggies and top with Feta! Enjoy!

Fitmas Day 3

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

I'm going to start with workout gear today y'all because OMG GLITTER.
Seriously, have you seen the new Lululemon line. It is to die for. I was skeptical at first as I was under the impression it was actual sequin yoga pants, and my only thought was ouch, but it is in fact a screen print of sequins! All the bling, none of the scratchiness. The only thing that is missing is one of their headbands in the sequin pattern. (Dear Lulu, are you listening?)
I know it is expensive, but I am a huge Lulu fan...I mean I named my cat after the store.
(JK. Name credit goes to my favorite Jersey girl.) But seriously, if you have even the most remote interest in shiny things you are going to love today's workout gear picks.
If you have an iPhone and know the little heart-eyed emoji...just picture that as my face and me jumping up and down.

Core-set Bra
Shine Tight

Today's recipe makes a great lunch salad or a side dish for dinner, not to mention it is super easy to make and saves well so you can make a big batch and eat it through the week. Yay meal prep!
Tomato Mozzarella Avocado Salad
Ingredients:
-2-3 avocados (cubed)
-2-3 tomatoes (cubed) or just use cherry tomatoes halved
-1 ball of fresh mozzarella (cubed)
-2 tbs of EVOO
-1 tsp basil
-salt & pepper to taste

Step 1: Combine all ingredients in a bowl.
Step 2: Serve! (See I told you it was easy!)

Fitmas Day 2!

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Today's workout challenge is going to focus on your arms & shoulders! And it will only take about 15 minuets!  Ready to feel the burn?
Equipment: 1-2 sets of dumbbells. You know your strengths and weaknesses, if you feel like 5lbs is too easy, up it to 8 or vice versa!

1 | {Bent Over Dumbbell Reverse Fly} Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and with your knees slightly bent. Bend forward at the hips so your torso is parallel to the ground, holding a pair of dumbbells straight down with palms facing in. Next, with elbows slightly bent, raise the dumbbells out the side so that the elbows extend above the shoulders. Return to starting position. Do as many as you can for 60 seconds!

2 | {Dumbbell Upright Row} Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and place a pair of dumbbells straight down in front of you. With palms facing your body, pull the weight straight up the front of your body to the top of your chest, keeping the elbows slightly above the shoulders. Again, as many as you can for 60 seconds!

3 | {Dumbbell Shoulder to Shoulder Press} Hold a dumbbell flat in your right hand, resting it on the top of your shoulder. Press straight up and then lower your arm. Alternate with the your left arm. Do as many as you can for 60 seconds!

4 | {Dumbbell Spider Curls} Hold a pair of dumbbells straight out in front of you with palms facing out. Curl the weight up to full contraction without rocking back and forth.  Return the weight to starting position. Want a challenge?  Alternate left and right for single-arm spider curls. Can you guess how long? Yup, 60 seconds.

5 | {Dumbbell Skull Crushers}  Lie face up on the floor with feet planted on the floor and your back pressed down. With a dumbbell in each hand, raise the arms straight up (palms facing each other). Then, bending only at the elbows, lower the weight down to your ears, finishing in 90-degree angle. Return to starting position. 60 seconds!

Finished all 5 exercises? That is one set. Repeat 2 more times! You can rest for 15 seconds between each exercise and one minuet between the sets!

Now that you are working on those shoulders and arms, you are going to want to show off those toned muscles! Here is what I have picked out for y'all from DA Active!

Lover.ly Wedding Inspiration

Saturday, November 1, 2014

Happy November 1 y'all! Fall is really flying by isn't it? This semester has been crazy and I am so ready for it to be over. Which could explain my sudden desire to run off to someplace exotic. Law school has its high points and its low points and recently, for me, it has been a low point, hence my absence. But anyway, that + wanting to escape + my recent discovery of Lover.ly is a real winning combination. And quite frankly, is what fueled this post. Thanks Lover.ly!
Anyway, if you have not yet checked it out Lover.ly is an online cloud for planning your wedding. It is a one stop shop where you can organize everything wedding related.
Needless to say, unless y'all know something I don't, I will not be planning a wedding anytime soon, but just for fun and/or procrastination sake I had a little fun styling a dress for a destination wedding.

Where am jetting off to you ask? The Italian country-side of course! Naturally, I picked a romantic lace flow-y gown with some gorgeous drop-pearl earrings and beautiful peep-toe pumps. I debated on the shoes, it was the same style either in ivory or navy, but ultimately I went with ivory...since well...I can always change my mind when the time comes.

I decided on a pearl headpiece to go in an up-do because I really love the back of the dress and the neckline so having my hair up to show it off would be necessary.

Earrings | Tiffany & Co
Headpiece | Joielle

So, what do y'all think? Feeling inspired? Go check out Lover.ly for yourself! It is perfect for any bride-to-be...or overworked law student, take your pick.

This post was inspired by Lover.ly, location provided by Lover.ly, creatively styling by yours truly.

Fall Fashions

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

Fall. I actually giggled a little bit when writing that. While I'm sure some parts of the nation are experiencing fall like conditions...here in Middle Georgia we are not. However, that does not mean that stores are being inundated with fall goodies, I was in Hobby Lobby the other day and they had Christmas Trees up. Not joking.
Even though I may not actually be wearing anything fall-ish for a few more weeks (or months?) I can't help but browse my favorite stores looking at all the beauties and dream about the cooler weather to come.

JK. It can stay hot here as long as it likes.

Regardless, here are my key pieces for fall.

Halloween Crafts!

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Let me preface this by saying I HATE pumpkins. Hate. Hate HATE. I know that sounds super dramatic, but I have what I consider a pretty good reason. 3 years ago around Halloween I had a minor traumatic incident involving a pumpkin that haunts me to this day.

I was at a pumpkin carving social with my sorority and while carving a cute little heart into my pumpkin my hand slipped and I cut my pinky finger to the bone. Fast forward a trip to the emergency room and eight stitches later I was less than enchanted by my cute little heart pumpkin. After visiting a hand surgeon a week later and discovering I had severed all my tendons it is safe to say I wanted to smash my pumpkin. I ended up having surgery and to this day my little piny finger is...well its not the same. I cannot fully bend or straighten it so when fall rolls around I avoid pumpkins like the plague.

I know this probably sounds dumb but I will probably never carve a pumpkin again. This year, however I decided to get over my fear and buy two pumpkins. While I did not carve them, I did make them pretty darn cute.

Step 1: Wash & dry pumpkins. Get Modge Podge and gold glitter!

Step 2: Tape off the top of the pumpkins about 1/4 of the way down.

Step 3: Paint Modge Podge onto the pumpkin covering all the surface above the tape, then cover wet Modge Podge with glitter!

Step 4: Using black acrylic paint, paint festive words on your pumpkin! After you do this the Modge Podge should be dry enough to remove the tape.

Aren't they adorable?! I vote yes, but then again, I am pretty partial to anything that has glitter on it.  For those of you wondering, yes my apartment is covered in glitter. It doesn't really bother me but if you are not a fan of looking like a pixie you may want to do this little project outside.

Last year, I posted about the mentor that I got through an organization I am a part of at the law school. Well, this year I get to be a mentor! Yay! I found out who my little mentee is on Friday and I have all my gifts set for next week! Each day has a theme so my gifts are coordinated with those. Monday is Munchie Monday, followed by Too Cool For School Tuesday and Wind Down Wednesday, then the 1Ls get to find out who their mentors are on Thursday. I am mostly just really proud of my cute wrapping job! I hope she likes her gifts!

For your viewing pleasure

This is the most adorable thing ever.

p.s. consider this proof I am, in fact, still alive. While law school has consumed my life, it has not yet killed me.

Fitbit x Tory

Friday, August 29, 2014

Post-knee surgery my mom got me a Fitbit to help me get back into the walking game. After being on crutches for so long, walking was something I really needed in my life. Anyway, flash forward to now, I'm still wearing my Fitbit and tracking my steps. It's super fun competing with yourself and other Fitbit friends!

The only drawback is that it is a bracelet that you wear 24/7. When I got mine, the band options were black or blue. Boring and not that cute. Enter Tory Burch.

She has created a line of super cute Fitbit compatible bracelets that are cute and stylish! One even borders on something you could wear in a professional setting! Safe to say, I'm in love! You can shop the whole Tory Burch x Fitbit collection here!

Oops! I disappeared again. Sorry y'all! Don't worry, I'm still alive and well, just really.insanely.busy.

So what is it that has kept me away from you? 17 credit hours, that is what. I am still adjusting to my schedule and trying to find time to fit it all in, so I PROMISE that I will be appearing here on a more regular basis soon.

But for now, here is what is up:

1| Operation Summer Detox- This past week I have been participating in a challenge with my most favorite BeachBody Coach ever! #shamelessplug But in all seriousness, she has been great motivating me to stay on track, hit the gym and drink lots and lots of water. She hosts lots of challenges like this so next time you want to get in on one, let me know! :) You can also visit her coaching page, here, to check out everything she has to offer. Next up, I think we are doing the 21 day fix! Yay!

2| Schooooooool- yep. That's back in full swing. On deck for this semester is Evidence, Constitutional Law, Business Associations, Legal Writing II and Juvenile Courts: Practice & Procedure.

3| The.Pink.Mixer- If you follow me on Instagram you've probably already seen this but I'm so proud I must share. OBVIOUSLY, I have a think for pink...and baking...so when I found this BRAND NEW Pink Kitchen Aid Mixer on eBay for $70 I knew I had to bid on it. And I won!!!! So I now have this beauty sitting in my kitchen and I didn't have to sell my first born child to get it!

4| Morgan & I have an exciting new project in the works. That is all I can say for now, but more or less, it is going to be pretty.dang.awesome.

5| Lulu- she is still alive and kicking...and being TROUBLE. But you know, she is still pretty darn cute.

Power Suit

Friday, August 15, 2014

I have always subscribed to the mentality that when you feel good in an outfit, that good feeling emanates into your personality and you can make some really powerful impressions on those around you. I'm not saying that clothes are everything, but for me, going into an interview or a presentation being comfortable in my outfit choice helps me to be far more confident in what I am doing. I am a huge proponent of having proper business clothes because nothing is more unprofessional than being underdressed.
Obviously, being in professional school I have many occasions where suits are required. But even in the business world, there are certainly circumstances where suiting up is going to make a difference.
People are often critical of suits because they can seem stiff or boring...but y'all know me...nothing about my wardrobe is boring. Here are my picks for this fall's most stellar professional gear!
