Sparkle & Shine Party!

Tuesday, December 24, 2013

As I mentioned here, Kelsie & I planned a Chloe & Isabel pop-up shop party just in time for the holidays! Unfortunately, the weather on Friday was less than wonderful, with lots of rain and then freezing temperatures, but we had fun regardless! When I arrived home, my mom had the house all decked out for Christmas. Ever since she started working at the home decor boutique downtown, I swear she has accumulated quite the collection of Christmas Decor...but let me tell you...our house looks amazing. The photos really don't do her decorations justice.

We were not sure how many people to expect but we had an amazing selection of appetizers picked out. They were delicious!

Kelsie's selection of jewelry is seriously amazing. I am very jealous of her collection! We all had so much fun trying on all of her pieces and I know I had a very very hard time picking just a few to order!

The jewelry is all a really nice quality, and it has a lifetime warranty so if it does break, they replace it for free! Plus, it is all made in the USA and is hypoallergenic, which for me is a huge huge selling point. I am always searching for nice jewelry that doesn't turn green after wearing it only a few times and I have super sensitive skin so if its not good quality I break out in a rash. Earrings? I can't even being to think about putting them in my ears unless they are made with a good quality metal because I am so allergic to so many metals. I am so happy to say I have NEVER had a problem with the Chloe & Isabel jewelry. No turning green, no rashes, no ear infections...its great!  I loved being able to shop with confidence, knowing that I was getting a good, bigger orders got free express shipping with guaranteed delivery by Christmas! Yay! I'm super excited to give C&I Jewelry as gifts and introduce more people to the brand.

Merry Christmas Eve y'all. Tonight, my family and I join our close family friends for our annual Christmas Eve dinner before heading to the Midnight service at our Church!

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

End of the Semester Update

Monday, December 23, 2013

Well, I made it. I am done with my first semester of law school. I cannot believe how quickly it went by! I'm not sure its totally set in yet, but it sure is nice to not have to study. Here are the highlights:

I think that my use of tabs kept Post-It in business for at least the next year.
Mo and I went to Starbucks almost every day...and got matching 'for here' cups.
Lulu won the Kitten Olympic Games in the high jump.
I flew home to Michigan! Check out that snow!
My parents celebrated their 30th Wedding Anniversary!
I now get to blog from in front of this beautiful tree!

I made it home safe and sound and I am so enjoying just relaxing and not having anything to do at all. Saturday, Daddy and I braved the mall to go Christmas Shopping, not only did we make it out alive, we also did it in record time! Sunday, we ventured to Frankenmuth to visit Bronner's, the Worlds Largest Christmas Store. It was so so fun. I have never seen so many beautiful and unique ornaments in one place. They have everything you could possibly imagine and some things you probably couldn't imagine! I got some new ornaments for my tree since sweet Lulu stole all mine and hid them from me while I was gone for Thanksgiving. (I still have yet to find them all.)

And my gifts are all wrapped! (and Color Coordinated.) Just crossing my fingers that FedEd delivers the last few in time!
Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland!
Bronner's Snowman!
Ballerina, Kitty, pretties, made in Italy & Detroit ornaments.

Bronner's Big Christmas tree!
Dad even had a special ornament made for my mom for their anniversary! It turned so nicely. He hid it on the tree and was going to put a note in her stocking on Christmas so she had to go find it, but he was too excited and ended up telling her when she got home from work. She was so surprised.

How cute right?!
I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas filled with lots of relaxing time spent with family, friends and loved ones!

Holiday Appetizers

Monday, December 16, 2013

As promised, here are the recipes for the appetizers Mo and I made for game night! They were such a hit!

First we made Candy Cane Sugar Cookies. These were honestly so so easy.

(Makes 48 cookies)
-1 package of candy cane Hersey kisses
- 2- 3/4 cups of flour
-1 teaspoon of baking soda
-1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
-1 cup butter, softened
-1-1/2 cup white sugar
-1 egg
-1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 375*.
2. Combine all dry ingredients.
3. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Then beat in egg and vanilla extract. Then slowly add dry ingredients.
4. Roll into balls and place on an un-greased cookie sheet.
5. Bake 8-10 min or until golden. Remove from tray to wire racks.
6. Press 1 Candy Cane Hersey Kisses into each cookie.
7. Let cool full before stacking. (Mo and I actually put ours in the freezer because we were on a time crunch. The kisses end up melting a bit when you put them on hot cookies.)

Yum! I have to admit, Mo and I actually used break and bake sugar cookies because we were on a serious time crunch. Either from scratch or pre made works just fine!

Next we made baby caprese salads! Again, easy easy easy!

(Makes about 30)
-1 package of cherry tomatoes
-1 package of fresh basil
-1 ball of fresh mozzarella (found in the deli cheese section)
-Balsamic vinegar of your choice
- Extra virgin olive oil (optional)

1. Wash cherry tomatoes and cut in half.
2. Slice ball of fresh mozzarella into 1/2 inch cubes.
3. Wash fresh basil and slice into 2 inch strips.
4. Thread ingredients onto toothpicks. 1/2 tomato, mozzarella, basil, 1/2 tomato.
5. Put in serving dish, preferably one that has at least some sort of side so you don't spill the balsamic everywhere!
6. Drizzle balsamic vinegar over each baby salad. (This can be done to taste, I generally go lighter on the balsamic because otherwise it is too strong for me.)
7. If you choose, drizzle EVOO to taste over each baby salad also. For these, because it was a 'finger food' appetizer, we did not use EVOO because it would get too greasy / messy.

These were so popular. Every last one was gone! Plus, how festive? They are red and green! :)
I hope you enjoy these two easy recipes as much as I do. What are your holiday favorites?

This Blogger Loves Her Readers

Sunday, December 15, 2013

I wanted to post this quickly, because I feel so so bad. I have been a no-reply blogger and didn't even realize it!!!

It was called to my attention when Chelsee from Southern Beauty Guide posted this. She is one of my partners this month for Cara Box. YAY! Go check her out because this girl is a make up master. Dark circles? She can fix them. I swear. Anyway...while what she blogged about was slightly different it got me thinking...

I always wondered if anyone ever read my blog since I *never* got any comments...well...low and behold I WAS GETTING COMMENTS AND I HAD NO IDEA AND I WAS IGNORING ALL MY LOVELY COMM ENTERS!!!! :(

Don't worry, I have it under control now, and I now know where to look for comments. (I'm sure a lot of you out there are saying Duh Leslie! and also wondering how the heck I got into law school.)

But THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who has ever left me sweet little messages, I promise I was not ignoring you. Plus, reading them all right now was not only an excellent study break but also fixed the sad Criminal Law "hangover" mood that was in until just a few minuets ago.

All my love followers!

Half-way there, Living on a Prayer

Well, I am officially half-way done with finals. Civil Procedure and Torts are done, Contracts and Criminal Law are Monday and Wednesday this week. *phew* Then I get a nice break, filled of course with applying for jobs, but at least its a break from studying!

On Friday, I went to Atlanta to see Mo and E. While E was at work, Mo and I climbed Stone Mountain! It was really fun! Although, I did think I was going to die, Mo dragged me up to the top, and the view was absolutely worth it.

All the big buildings on the horizon is Downtown Atlanta.
Me, obviously. p.s. The sky actually looked like this, no filter needed!

Mo & I
The Stone Mountain Park was pretty cool also, in the winter they make fake snow and have snow tubing. Being from Michigan, it was kind of hilarious, but it did look pretty fun!

In the front is the baby area where the little kids can build snow men! Behind is the carving on the face of the mountain!

After we hiked the mountain we made some yummy holiday appetizers to take to E's brother and sister-in-law's game night. (Don't worry, I will post recipes soon because they were super festive and delicious!) At game night, we played Bowl, which I had never played before. It was a riot. Basically you split into two teams and every person writes three things on slips of paper. They can be anything from people, to places to things to sangs. There are three rounds, the first is description, the second is acting, the third is one word. Each round person is timed and the round ends when all the slips have been guessed. It is kind of like charades where your team has to guess what is on your slip! My team won both games! :)  I ended up staying in Atlanta for the night and came back Saturday afternoon which was nice because Mo and I got a LOT of studying done for our contracts exam! But, Lulu clearly super missed me because she would not leave my side when I got home.

Look at that face.
I have no idea how she fell asleep like this, but if I moved, she would I had to stay and cuddle. :)
Stay tuned for the delicious appetizer recipes! And, wish me luck on my last two finals!

Saturday, December 7, 2013

Alright y'all, it is no secret that I am sort of obsessed with Chloe & Isabel jewelry, but I have an exciting announcement...

If you live in the greater Detroit area, or want to go on an adventure, please feel free to join us for the open house, (email me for directions). But, if the journey is just too far, you can still shop with us...from the comfort of your own home! (I won't even judge you if you shop in your pjs.) Just follow this link, and check out all the amazing bling that will be just perfect for the holidays. Gift it so someone special...or to yourself!

It gets better, are you ready? Kelsie's birthday is the day its kind of like a big celebration that YOU get to participate in! (Now you feel like you have to come right?!)

I hope you all will join us! It is bound to be a great time!

DIY: Mr & Mrs Mugs

Since my sweet Mo & E are finally engaged, and I have given them their early Christmas gift, I can now share this DIY too! They are both big coffee drinkers so I knew this would be the perfect gift for them!
What you will need:
Any permanent marker will work, I used Sharpie Gold.
Porcelain mugs. I found these at Target.
Be sure they are porcelain, otherwise it won't work.

Practice writing a few times. This allows for you to perfect the look you want and get used to the feel of the marker.
I wrote the year on the bottom, as well as a note to hand wash. The mugs are dishwasher safe, but hand washing will preserve the decoration.
Add your art of choice...obviously I went with Mr. & Mrs.
I added a little heart inside on the bottom.
Bake @ 350* for 30 minuets.
Note: The baking sets the ink on the mugs so it won't wash off, again I say hand wash because nothing is perfect. Also this is **really important** place the mugs on a baking sheet and put them in the oven BEFORE you turn it on and leave them in there while the oven cools off. Allowing them to warm up and cool down with the oven will prevent them from cracking in the heat. The warm up and cool down time is not included in the 30 minuet bake time.

The Struggle is Real...

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

First of all, today is my last day of class of this semester. WHAT. Seriously, when did this happen? It feels like just yesterday I was suiting up to go to orientation and pick up my schedule, laptop and anxiously awaiting meeting new friends. Now, our first semester of law school finals are upon us. Crazy. Who knew that a life could change so much in so little time.

With all this impending stress, I just have to keep reminding myself that I have made it this far, and I will be able to make it through finals...even if I am already beyond exhausted.

This week we canceled our weekly bible study so we could all focus on studying, but I am finding it even more important to keep this in mind:

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
-Deuteronomy 31:6

In other news, Mo started blogging! You should check our her blog  More Coffey Please. You might even find some similar posts. :)
